The 11,500m2 building was part‐funded by the Learning and Skills Council and features a dramatic stainless steel sculpture at its prow. As well as learning space it also includes a gym, cafe and library.
The Trend Building Energy Management System controls all of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning, including integration of Ability Matrix Fan Coil Units using the BACnet open protocol.
Pumping energy is reduced to a minimum through the use of Pressure Independent valves, which allow accurate temperature control with reduced pump speed. Zones automatically operate at set‐back temperatures when unoccupied to further enhance energy efficiency.
